Willow Rosenthal purchased this garbage and crabgrass infested lot in 2000 and worked with the community to create a varied demonstration garden and community meeting place. The Farm is home to chickens, beehives, 11 fruit trees, a vermicomposting operation, a biointensive market garden, and a native wildlife habitat perennial border. The Center Street Farm is also home to our weekly Farm Stand where we distribute locally grown produce to West Oakland community members at sliding scale prices. The Saturday market day is an event teeming with neighbors catching up with each other as they make their purchases and neighborhood children getting their hands dirty planting crops and feeding the chickens.
